These minor routine changes may save your life

Car accidents are many times unavoidable, however you can increase your chances of not being in one by adding these precautions into your daily routine. They may be minor changes, but who knows, it may save your life one day.

  • Before you start the engine, make sure the warning lights are off, such as the gas line, engine coolant, and engine light. And then check and make sure the tires lines and air are good enough. These are the simple ways to check that your car has no problem for driving.
  • Avoid the “fast lane”. By using the center or right lane on multilane roads, you have more “escape routes” should a problem suddenly arise that requires you to quickly change lanes or pull onto the shoulder. Most highway accidents occur in the left lane. Furthermore, you are more conspicuous to highway patrol if you are in the “fast lane.”
  • Check blind spots before you change lanes. There’s always random side-streets and parking areas where people can just pull out without you noticing. Checking your blind spots before you move in the next lane always helps avoids side-swiping accidents.Keep your eyes scanning the area ahead. Don’t just eyeball the car in front of you but watch the traffic in front of that car as well. This increases your chance of seeing a problem while still having enough time to react to it, and decreases your chance of rear-ending the vehicle in front of you should they make a sudden stop.
  • Drive with your hands in the 9 and 3 o’clock position. Instead of the lazy, typical way people drive with one hand at 12 o’clock or both hands resting at the bottom of the steering wheel, this recommended position facilitates maximum vehicle control when you’re forced into quick maneuvering to avoid a potential car accident.
  • Use the signal lights before you change lanes. When you use the signal lights, you are also warning everyone that you want to change your lanes. They will slow down or stop the car until you pass the road.

Employee Perks That Attract The Best Talent

Companies offer many perks, but what are the best? How do you know what your employees really want and what will entice them to really enjoy their jobs feeling rewarded.  Many perks are expensive and sometimes impractical. Don’t worry, the goal is not to implement all of them. Forbes put together a list of perks that are important to employees and the culture.

1. Unlimited PTO: Although it may seem a little counterintuitive, unlimited paid time off actually boosts productivity here at Lendio. When people are trusted with the decision of how much time to take off, they make sure their work get’s done. When employees feel that you trust them, they are more likely to stick around.

2. Profit Sharing: Whether this be a quarterly bonus or it’s doled out at the end of the year, profit sharing will get your employees invested in your company’s success. When people feel a direct benefit from your company’s profitability, they work harder and more efficient.

3. Gym Membership: According to the Harvard Business Review, employee wellness programs should be seen as a strategic move, and not just a benefit. Healthy employees cost you less, and they work harder. Not only that, they’re happier, and they’re more likely to form bonds with co-workers. If you want your employees to stick around, here’s a great way to do it.

4. Extra time off around the holidays: Let’s face it, the holidays are an extremely busy time for everyone. If you’re business slows down around the holidays, you might as well give your employees time off. They’re going to like working there more, and they’re going to have more energy to start the New Year off right.

5. Free On-Site Spa Services: If your company is big enough, having an in-house masseuse can be a great way to reduce stress around your company. When your employees stress levels are high, they’re more likely to make mistakes. Spa services are a great way to bring down that stress level.

6. Maternity and Paternity leave beyond that required by law: A great way to show your employees that work-life balance is a high priority at your company is to give extended maternity and paternity leaves. When parents are able to spend time with their kids, they come back rejuvenated and with a new sense of purpose.

7. Drink fridge: Here at Lendio, we have a fridge full of drinks for employees. This doesn’t seem like much, but it can really help everyone out. This way they get that boost of energy, don’t have to run out to go get drinks, andthey feel more at home in the office. Continue reading.

Some Days Are Better Than Others. Some Are Best Forgotten. I am a Trucker.

This article posted to Trucking Truth really shows how difficult the rules, regulations, and expectations are for drivers to deal with.

As I write this, I am sitting cozy in my jammies (Dee grins every time I say jammies) in the sleeper cabin while munching on a sandwich from Subway. While Dee decided to brave the fourteen degree temperature and whipping winds to take a shower, I have chosen to stay warm and comfy and let you know how things have been going. It’s been a harrowing week. This 34 hour restart is just what the doctor ordered. Continue Reading.

A pain in the neck – why you should never ignore whiplash symptons

All too often, people who have suffered whiplash, a back injury or other injury in a car accident do not get prompt medical attention. They ignore their pain, or self-medicate, hoping that their injury will go away. This approach is potentially harmful in two ways: It may result in the injury growing worse. And it makes getting insurance compensation more difficult, if not impossible.

Whiplash starts to develop within 12 to 24 hours after the trauma. The first symptom of whiplash is stiffness and discomfort in the neck. If you notice that you can’t move your neck to the side or touch your chest with your chin, you might develop whiplash within a few hours. Another common symptom of this injury is pain at the base of the skull. This occurs, usually, because of inflammation. Other common symptoms of whiplash include the following: dizziness, insomnia, inability to concentrate, weird sensation in the ears and vision impairment. People with severe cases of whiplash are unable to move their head due to discomfort, have pain in their shoulders and experience numbness in the arms. If you have some of those symptoms, it’s important to seek immediate medical help.

If your pain is not going away or is preventing you from working, don’t wait — see your doctor as soon as possible. And call Sariol Legal Center at 866-953-1995 to find out how we can help you. If you do not have health insurance, we can refer you to a doctor who will treat you, with costs to be paid for from the settlement or award you receive.

Insurance companies are notorious for denying claims involving so-called soft tissue injuries. At Sariol Legal Center, we have a record of success in these and other car accident cases — and we do not back down in the face of insurance company intransigence. California whiplash injury attorney Frank Sariol and staff will work diligently to help you get all of the medical care and compensation you deserve.

Maximum Compensation for Truck Accident Victims

After a semi accident, investigators for the trucking company and its insurance company will be on the scene quickly. You need an experienced advocate on your side, fighting for your rights and working hard to win your case.

What to do at the scene of the accident:

  • Contact the police right away to ensure the preservation of the accident scene.
  • If you are injured, stay as still as possible until help arrives. Stay clear of any burning vehicles or oncoming traffic.
  • Say as little as possible to the other driver. Be very careful as just social courtesy, like saying “I’m sorry,” can be brought up later in a lawsuit.
  • Once the police arrive,  provide a factual statement and do not admit to fault.
  • Take photos using your cell phone or camera around the accident scene.  Gather information around the scene, write it down or in your cell phone notes. Examples are:
    • Truck driver information, such as his or her license and insurance information
    • The insurance information for the truck owner and trailer owner (if available)
    • Names and contact information of any witnesses
    • Names and contact information of any persons taking pictures, or talking to witnesses or persons involved in the collision. (Please note that it is not unusual for trucking company representatives and/or insurance company representatives for the trucking company to be present before the accident scene is even completely cleared.
  • Request a copy of the police report from the officer.

At Sariol Legal Center, we advocate vigorously on behalf of tractor-trailer accident victims and their families.
