Car accident? Don’t panic! Increase your chances of winning a claim with these tips

Auto accidents are one of the most common reasons for the death and injuries of Americans. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there have been 2,791 fatalities caused by traffic accidents in 2011. This means a 71-fatality increase from 2010. While this may be a relatively low increase, a car accident lawyer points out that this is the first time that there is an increase in vehicle crash fatalities recorded since 2007.

More than the loss of lives, automotive crashes have caused millions of dollars of damage to property. This is why a California auto accident lawyer wants to remind everyone that anybody can file a personal injury claim after falling victim for such mishaps. However, to successfully win your claims you have to present enough and strong pieces of evidence to back up your claim when you file for one. But how do you prepare for the filing of your complaint?

To increase your chances of winning your claim, your first actions after the accident happened will be critical. So how can you ensure your victory should you file a claim?

  • Call the police immediately.
  • Get immediate treatment for your injuries.
  • Give accurate and complete information about the accident to the authorities.
  • Get the names and contact details of the other party.
  • Talk to your insurance agent.

Break free from emotional stress after an accident with these self-help strategies

Car accidents can cause serious physical injury, but they can also leave the driver and passengers with mental and/or emotional injuries that may not be as apparent. Mental and emotional injuries can lurk under the surface for months or even years until treatment.

If you’ve gone through a traumatic experience, you may be struggling with upsetting emotions, frightening memories, or a sense of constant danger. Or you may feel numb, disconnected, and unable to trust other people. Recognizing you are suffering emotional trauma is key to helping, here are some tips to help you break free from this.

What exactly is emotional trauma? Emotional and psychological trauma is the result of extraordinarily stressful events that shatter your sense of security, making you feel helpless and vulnerable in a dangerous world.

In order to stay grounded after a trauma, it helps to have a structured schedule to follow.

1. Stick to a daily routine, with regular times for waking, sleeping, eating, working, and exercise. Make sure to schedule time for relaxing and social activities, too.

2. Break large jobs into smaller, manageable tasks. Take pleasure from the accomplishment of achieving something, even it’s a small thing.

3. Find activities that make you feel better and keep your mind occupied (reading, taking a class, cooking, playing with your kids or pets), so you’re not dedicating all your energy and attention to focusing on the traumatic experience.

4. Get plenty of sleep. After a traumatic experience, worry or fear may disturb your sleep patterns. A lack of sleep can make your trauma symptoms worse and make it harder to maintain your emotional balance. Go to sleep and get up at the same time each day and aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night

Always seek a professional for medical questions.

Tips to Prevent Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) at Your Computer

Your hands perform a variety of tasks every day, from typing on a keyboard to texting on your phone. These repetitive motions can create weakness and stiffness in your wrists and fingers.
Practicing simple exercises can help prevent injury. Exercises can strengthen your wrists and keep hands and fingers flexible.

What is RSI?
In simple medical terms, repetitive strain injury (RSI) is defined as a cumulative trauma disorder (CTD) stemming from prolonged repetitive, forceful, or awkward hand movements. The result is damage to muscles, tendons, and nerves of the neck, shoulder, forearm, and hand, which can cause pain, weakness, numbness, or impairment of motor control.

Try these proper typing techniques to reduce the rise of wrist pain.

  • Keep your wrists straight: The straighter your wrists, the less strain you put on the tendons and nerves.
  • Consult a Doctor: There are a variety of causes for hand pain, and the appropriate treatment will depend on the type you have. Your doctor may recommend wearing a hand brace or acupuncture and possibly a change in diet to reduce the pain.
  • Lowering your wrist: Surprisingly something that seems so simple can cause so much trouble, but simply lowering your wrist repeatedly while typing is enough to irritate cause a Repetitive Stress Injury.
  • Don’t strain your fingers: When you need to press a hard-to-reach key, like CTRL, SHIFT, BACKSPACE, etc., don’t stretch out your pinky. Instead, move your whole hand and use your index or middle finger to press the key. Don’t use one hand when you need to hit two keys simultaneously, e.g. CTRL-X, SHIFT-Y. Think before you type: unnecessary retyping/editting can add up. Use a light touch when typing: don’t pound the keys.

The combination of a break program, an ergonomic keyboard/mouse and posture can make all the difference.

Tips To Stay Safe on New Year’s Eve

2016 is well on its way, there is not stopping it. If you are hitting the parties or staying home, follow these tips to stay safe and have an enjoyable evening to wake up in the New Year.

STAY IN A GROUP. If you are going out, stick with the age-old buddy system. At bars or restaurants, stay with your group and be mindful of those around you. If you are walking home, only do so if you are headed out with a group of people. Your group will be able to watch out for each other and add safety.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE. This is the most important rule of all for having a safe New Year’s Eve. Driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 is illegal across the country. But the amount of alcohol it takes to get to that number depends on a variety of factors such as how fast you drink, weight, and gender. If you’ve had anything to drink, don’t get behind the wheel no matter what.

BE ON THE LOOKOUT. Always be aware of your surroundings. While having a fun night out with family and friends might be your top priority, your personal protection and safety must come first. Be on the lookout for strange or unusual behavior from other party goers, and stay close to your friends.

UBER | CAB | CALL A SOBER DRIVER. There are many options to be able to drink and get home safely. Add the Uber or Lyft app to your phone before you go out. Test it to make sure it works and when you are ready to go home later you wont have to think much but to tap your phone and get a safe ride home.

“click it or ticket it or you better have a good song to sing.” Florida Man Sings His Way Out of Traffic Ticket

A man in Florida used his singing voice to get out of a traffic ticket for not wearing his seatbelt.

Gospel singer T.J. Bristol posted a video — which he shot himself with the aid of a selfie stick — to Facebook on Sunday after being pulled over by deputies in the Orlando area.

He sang “You Are So Beautiful” to the deputies and promised he would buckle up from then on, the video showed.

“God just got me out of this big ticket maybe you should try singing to your police officers,” he wrote in the post.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident, even sharing Bristol’s video on its own Facebook page and calling it, “A high note for two deputies!”

One of the deputies involved had lost her husband, a police officer, in a line-of-duty killing 5 years ago, and said the performance was “therapeutic.” The anniversary of his death was Tuesday, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Bristol concluded his post with a reminder for others to use their seatbelts while in a car.

“Always remember click it or ticket,” he wrote. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE

Top winter driving tips

When the chilly weather comes around, will your vehicle be ready to kick the cold? Here are our top tips to keep you and your family safe this cold season:

No one wants their car to break down in any season, but especially not in cold, icy or snowy winter weather. Start the season off right by ensuring your vehicle is in optimal condition.

  • Visit your mechanic for a tune-up and other routine maintenance.
  • Have your entire vehicle checked thoroughly for leaks, badly worn hoses, or other needed parts, repairs, and replacements.

Remember that children under age 13 should be properly restrained in the back seat.

  • While thick outerwear will keep your children warm, it can also interfere with the proper harness fit on your child in his/her car seat. Instead, place blankets around your child after the harness is snug and secure.
  • Always remember to lock your vehicle when exiting so children do not play or get trapped inside.

  • If road conditions are hazardous, avoid driving if possible. Wait until road and weather conditions improve before venturing out in your vehicle.
